Weight what matters and compare options with transparent scoring.

What it does
For the decision you have been going round in circles on — which job offer, which laptop, which city, which supplier. Name the options, name what actually matters and how much, and score each option honestly. The matrix totals the weighted scores, ranks the options and shows which criteria are carrying the result.
How to use it
- Write what you are deciding.
- Add your criteria — for example price, commute, growth, quality — and give each a weight from 1 to 5 for how much it matters to you.
- Add your options.
- Score each option on each criterion from 0 to 10.
- Read the ranking and the “what’s carrying the result” breakdown.
You can start from the example or from a blank matrix.
How to get an honest answer
- Score before you look at the total. Fill the whole grid first. Scoring while watching the totals move is how people talk themselves into the answer they already wanted.
- Check what’s carrying the result. If one criterion is responsible for nearly all of the winner’s lead, you don’t really have a matrix — you have one question. Answer that question directly.
- Listen to your reaction. The number isn’t the final answer. But the moment you see it, you will know whether you agree with it, and that feeling is often the answer.
